2020 Years Of Service Awards

Long careers are a tradition at Carey Hilliard’s. This year we celebrated two long time employees.

Hazel Stevens – 25 Years | $2,500

“Mr. Gunn hired me at first on Hwy. 80, in 1988.”  After several years, she took a break, working at a few other places – even convenience stores.

In 1995:  She recalls Ms. Vaugn hiring her, “I called Ms. Vaughn and told her my other job went bankrupt. I told her I wanted to go to Waters, but Hwy. 80. Needed help, and I started back there.”

Hazel couldn’t have made it through without “Joann Gary, and Ms. Blackmore” among others.

In June, Hazel transferred from Hwy. 21, back to the Pooler crew.  She’s a HUGE help on night-shift.

She was one of the Original Cook of the Month Winners about 10 years ago, and recently won twice this year, in March and June.  Of course, she knows all stations in the Kitchen, and is exceptional on the Grill.  She’s determined, and a hard-worker.

Hazel’s been known as a “phenomenon” in the Kitchen, the “glue that holds the team together.”

Arthurnette Williams – 35 Years | $5,500

Before working at Carey Hilliard’s she was unemployed, and needing a job.

So, on March 28, 1985, she was overjoyed to start working at Hilliard’s Fast Food on Montgomery St.  She was in her 30’s then, and credits her amazing looks to a “young gene” in the family.

Mr. Porter hired her as a Cook.   “It was fun working there, I went from Cook to Counter-help…they had her doing a bit of everything,” she says.  She left Fast Foods when it closed, moving to Carey Hilliard’s – Skidaway.

During the years, she moved around when needed, working at Waters and Abercorn Stores.

According the Arthurnette, she couldn’t have made it without  “Quisha and LaCarol.”

Arthurnette has been a blessing, working the busy nights at Skidaway.  She’s a mentor to everyone.  She cares sincerely about getting the food out of the Kitchen fast and correctly.

Recently, she won Cook of the Month in September ’20 for never giving up on doing the right thing.

Arthurnette has a sister in Kissimmee, Florida – along with and a bunch of nieces and nephews, and a brother here in Savannah.
