Opening in 1974, this was the first location on Savannah’s West Side, in Garden City. Situated under the shadow of the Savannah Port on the Savannah River, surely made it convenient for people working in the industrial area to grab a quick bite to eat, or even better, a to-go! Keeping with tradition, the exterior was clad in timeless “Savannah Grey Brick.” The foyer is large, with a grand chandelier hanging high above in an alcove, just inside the front doors. A huge “Carey Hilliard’s” neon sign was installed out front lighting up C-A-R-E-Y to distinguish this “Hilliard’s” from Carey’s brothers’ restaurants, Bill Hilliard’s and Dick Hilliard’s.

This Hwy. 80 Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant is located only 5 minutes down Bay Street from downtown. That makes it a hot spot after St. Patrick’s day for tourists wanting a taste of the local flavor. Speaking of hot spots, this restaurant is THE lunch spot during the work week. Favorite menu items at this location include the half price hot wings, club sandwich, deluxe club sandwich with ham and turkey, pork club sandwich, and the original shrimp dinner. It’s common for a nearby office to group order, and this is made easy by ordering online. If you visit during lunch, you’ll see large to-go orders stacked up ready for pickup. The staff here is exceptionally fast at cooking club sandwiches on the grill. Customers can dine-in and leave full to their stomachs in less than 30 minutes during lunch. Customers who are short on time, have the option of calling-ahead an order, ordering online, or ordering on the curb. The curbside driveup at this restaurant is fast and friendly with great service. This draws working lunches from nearby businesses such as Grainger Honda on nearby Chatham Parkway, airport staff and staff from the Georgia Ports.
